The Golden Horseshoe Has Been Found!

At 5:43 PM Saturday, January 23rd Mike DeSimone of the Winter Carnival Committee received a phone call saying this year's carnival medallion - a 6 inch golden horseshoe - has been found.

The Toulson family of Cooperstown including dad Michael, mom Molly, and boys Emerson and Becket found the horseshoe after having spent many hours over the last week and a half searching for it in all locations, DeSimone said.

The family finally hit treasure when they took their eyes off the ground and looked up, seven feet. They found the horseshoe in a tree at the top of Lake Front Park. Where the tree trunk split into limbs there was a hole that the horseshoe had been dropped down into and covered with snow.

DeSimone reports that after seeing all the footsteps from traffic around the tree, Mike Touslson - a CCS high school Math Teacher - retrieved a small step stool and reached into the tree and pulled out the horseshoe, much to his family's delight.

The Toulson family will receive the prize of $500 from The Freeman's Journal & Richfield Springs NEWSPAPER for finding the golden horseshoe.
